Photographs from County Kildare, Ireland All photos are copyrighted and may not be used for commercial purposes. The following photographs were taken during a holiday to Ireland in July 2010. The camera used was a Sony Cybershot DSC-W170 digital camera (10 megapixel). The photographs are 3648 x 2736 in resolution and about 3.25MB in size. They have not been edited, except for one, which was straightened. Click on each photo for enlargement. Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland - The town of Celbridge is located in County Kildare, about 12 miles west of Dublin. Celbridge is easily reachable via a 45 minute ride on a Dublin city bus. My reason for visiting Celbridge was touring Castletown House, which is shown further below. After my return from Ireland, I realized that Arthur Guinness was not only born in Celbridge, but also is buried in the Oughter Ard cemetery, which is located in the town Ardclough, just southwest of Celbridge. My next visit to Ireland might have to include another visit to pay homage to Arthur! Castletown House, Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland - Castletown House is an impressive and formal home built in 1722. It is a Palladian style house with identical left and right wings. The home is open for tours, but unfortunately, they do not allow interior photography during a tour. If you are interested in seeing the interior, the Castletown House website does have a short video tour of each room. The video of the Entrance Hall does not give justice to room, with the true height of the ceiling and the number of moldings. Some of my exterior photos were inhibited due to the fact that the right wing of the home was being refurbished (which can be seen in one of the photos below), and that some temporary scaffold type lighting was erected further out in front of the home for some type of event.
