The following photographs were taken in March 2002 while on holiday in London, England. The camera used was a Kodak DX3600 digital camera, which is a 2.2 megapixel camera. Most photographs are 1800 x 1200 in resolution, and up to 800KB in size. Click on each photo for enlargement.

The term Great Britain generally refers to the island, and the countries and territories of England, Scotland and Wales. The term United Kingdom (UK) is derived from the formal name the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. So the UK consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The population of London is over 7.5 million, and the metropolitan area is over 12 million. Photographs of some common city and historical attractions are shown below.

This is a March 2002 photograph of the tube stop at Gloucester Road, near my hotel. It was so visually appealing that I had to take a photo of a tube stop!
Big Ben, London, England - While it is commonly called Big Ben, it actually consists of three components: the tower, the clock and the bell. The formal name of the tower is the Clock Tower, the formal name of the clock is the Great Clock, and the formal name of the bell is the Great Bell. The Big Ben nickname was first used to describe just the bell, but it is now commonplace to use Big Ben to describe the entire structure, including the tower, clock and bell. It was completed in 1859.

Kensington Palace, London, England - Kensington Palace has been used as a residence of the British royal family since the 17th century. It was the official residence of Diana, Princess of Wales, until her death in 1997.

Tower Bridge, London, England - Tower bridge is a suspension bridge across the River Thames. Tower Bridge is sometimes mistakenly referred to as London Bridge, which is actually the next bridge upstream. The bridge was completed and officially opened in 1894.
