Big Ben, London, England - While it is commonly called Big Ben, it actually consists of three components: the tower, the clock and the
bell. The formal name of the tower is the Clock Tower, the formal name
of the clock is the Great Clock, and the formal name of the bell is the
Great Bell. The Big Ben nickname was first used to describe just the bell,
but it is now commonplace to use Big Ben to describe the entire structure,
including the tower, clock and bell. It was completed in 1859.
